Across the country, local chapters of the United Way bring people together to strengthen their communities by focusing on creating opportunities for youth, improving healthcare access, addressing nutrition and food insecurity, and more.
Like all nonprofits, United Way chapters need insurance to operate. But, because they have a wide range of mission work and serve many different groups of people, it can be challenging to find insurance coverage that matches all their risks.
So, what do United Way chapters need most when it comes to their insurance?
Meet an NIA-insured United Way chapter.
We talked with an NIA-insured United Way chapter, and they described how their mission serves their community, the insurance they need to do it safely, and why they trust NIA to provide it.
In their own words…
United Way of Greater Kansas City (Kansas City, MO)
“We mobilize people and resources to improve healthcare, enhance youth opportunity, foster financial security, and create community resiliency so that all can thrive.
We provide direct grant funding support to 200-plus nonprofits and pass through funding to more than 600 additional nonprofits.
We operate 211, our region’s resource and referral line which responded to more than 467,000 unique contacts for health and human service needs in 2024.
We create and execute real-time solutions to our community’s most pressing challenges, which currently include: Family stability work, emergency economic relief through prepaid debit cards, utility relief for individuals facing critical medical needs, eviction prevention/legal aid, and dental care assistance.
In 2024, we also executed an emergency relief fund to assist victims of the Super Bowl parade rally shooting in Kansas City. More than $2M in aid was delivered to 20 gunshot victims and 14 community organizations working in the areas of violence prevention, mental health, and support for first responders.”

How did this United Way chapter hear about NIA?
Merging with another chapter.

Since becoming an NIA member, how has that relationship helped this United Way chapter?
Quick answers to coverage questions.
“We appreciate NIA’s strong customer service, the valuable resources they provide, and the consistency in our policy renewals.
We have utilized the Risk Management Reference library for risk mitigation, especially related to planning and executing events.
Before coming to NIA, our main concerns were the lack of strong customer service and receiving renewal notices very late, which made planning and decision-making difficult.”
