Underwriter Emmanuel B. shares his journey and how a career at Nonprofits Insurance Alliance has enabled him to use his skills to serve the needs of the nonprofit sector.

Meet Emmanuel:

I am an insurance professional, with nearly 20 years of experience — ranging from Claims to Underwriting.

Where are you from, and where do you live now?

I am originally from Southern California — the Los Angeles area. Now, I’m settled in California’s Central Coast.

How long have you worked at NIA?

I have worked at NIA going on 10 years.

What did you do before that?

Before coming to work at NIA, I was the office manager for a small nonprofit organization.

Tell us about the growth of your career at NIA.

My career growth at NIA can be attributed to the training, support, and encouragement of my peers, my mentor, and my managers.

Do you like working remotely? How often do you go into the office?

I do enjoy working remotely. I only go into the office if there is a special occasion or if my power/internet is out at home.

Do you feel you have a good work/life balance?

I’ve been able to develop a plan at NIA which helps me maintain my work/life balance at home.

Do you feel supported and respected by the people you work with?

My colleagues and managers at NIA have always supported me — both professionally and personally.

Are your ideas heard and acted on? Can you provide a short example/story?

The Insurance Operations Management team at NIA is always open to new ideas to improve productivity while focusing on the well-being of their staff.

Have you taken advantage of any of the continuing education opportunities that NIA offers?

I have taken several courses related to my position within NIA’s Insurance Operations team.

Can you tell us about some of your favorite/memorable nonprofits that we work with?

I previously worked with a nonprofit called Community Partners, a fiscal sponsorship organization that helps startup projects get started.

I had an opportunity to meet with the nonprofit and it was great to see our work in action.

How has your work at NIA affected your life and/or community involvement?

Serving my community has always been important to me.
