Nonprofits Create Community is NIA’s theme for 2026, as we celebrate the ways that nonprofits come through for their communities in spite of all the challenges facing them. In this series, meet some NIA-insured nonprofits who share their stories of creating community in their own words.

Meet VillageCore of San Diego, CA

Mironshokh Kudratulloev, Executive Director of VillageCore explains:

“VillageCore empowers vibrant aging through intergenerational connection, AgeTech innovation, and compassionate caregiver support, bridging retirees, students, and communities through technology and shared purpose.”

How does your nonprofit and your mission create community for the people and places you serve?

Bridging Generations Through Shared Purpose

“VillageCore creates community by bridging generations through shared purpose.

Our flagship program, InterGen Innovators, pairs retirees and professionals with students in a six-week cohort where they collaborate on real AgeTech challenges using AI and VR.

These cross-generational teams don’t just build projects; they build trust, belonging, and lasting relationships.”

What are your nonprofit’s biggest challenges or obstacles to creating community?

Finding Consistent Funds to Keep Programs Free and Affordable

“Securing consistent funding to keep our programs free or low-cost for participants, especially students on scholarship, is an ongoing obstacle.

We are working to address both through partnerships, caregiver support tools, and our Caregiving Companion app.”
