Whether they’re seeking better lives and opportunities or fleeing conflict, oppression, or natural disasters, immigrants have always been an essential part of the fabric of this country.
However, that doesn’t mean that it’s easy for newly arrived immigrants to get settled, fit into a new culture, and begin their lives as Americans.
Fortunately, there are nonprofits whose missions are focused on making that process a little bit easier for immigrants and refugees — providing them with support, access to resources, housing assistance, job-seeking resources, literacy and education, advocacy, and much more.
These nonprofits help families through what can be one of the most stressful experiences in their lives — but in order to do that, they need good insurance backing them up.
So, what do these Immigrant advocacy nonprofits need most from their insurance?
We talked with several immigration support nonprofits about what’s they need most when it comes to their insurance coverage — and how that coverage helps them be able to continue their missions.
In their own words…
Redding Refugee Sponsor Circle (Redding, CA)
“We assist individuals and families fleeing war and disaster to come to the U.S. legally. As such, they arrive with work authorization and a clear path to citizenship. We support their resettlement with everything they need to become contributing members of our community.
We provide safe and secure housing, comprehensive social services, medical and mental health care, transportation, educational and employment opportunities, plus cultural orientation to help them assimilate and achieve sustainable independence.”
– Nikki Blum, President, Redding Refugee Sponsor Circle
Placer People of Faith Together (Roseville, CA)
“Our mission includes advocating for immigration reform and pathways to citizenship. Work in each community includes research meetings with local officials and partners, as well as inviting speakers to share information to the people who most need it.
Organizing is particularly blossoming around the issues of developing a connection between local law enforcement and the Latino community, improving access to education, and getting out the vote. Leadership development, a thorough understanding of our surroundings, and action based on values that will bring us closer to the environment we want to see here in Placer County.”
– Edwin Morgado, Executive Director, Placer People of Faith Together
Part of the Solution (Bronx, NY)
“For more than four decades, Part of the Solution has served the Bronx community, fighting poverty and hunger.
After the pandemic, the organization had to evolve to meet the demand of incoming migrants and local residents alike.
In 2025, we will launch the most ambitious project to date to give people access to essentials and pave the wave to break the cycle of poverty of more households than ever before
Programs include a dignity and wellness program, which provides access to life essentials to vulnerable and street homeless neighbors; a food program, which ensures that people in need have access to the nourishment they need; and a long-term stability program, which connects our community with public benefits and resources to aspire for a better life.”
– Diego Padilla, Director of External Relations and Communications, Part of the Solution
Heartfelt Tidbits (Cincinnati, OH)
“Heartfelt Tidbits empowers immigrants and refugees by providing essential support, education, and cultural integration programs. Through initiatives like language classes, technology education, and community events, we foster connections, promote self-sufficiency, and celebrate diversity. Our mission is to create inclusive opportunities for all, enriching both individuals and the broader community.
Heartfelt Tidbits offers a wide range of programs and services to empower immigrants, refugees, and underserved communities. Key offerings include family support services, language and literacy programs, cultural exchange and community building, skill development and empowerment, youth and educational support, and creative and expressive arts.”
– Sheryl Rajbhandari, Founder & Executive Director, Heartfelt Tidbits

– Nikki Blum, Redding Refugee Sponsor Circle
Affordable coverage and good customer service.
“We were looking for an insurer that was easy to contact, friendly, and was able to offer us affordable pricing.”
– Edwin Morgado, Placer People of Faith Together

“What we needed most was an insurance provider that is very responsive and happy to explain any questions I may have.”
– Sheryl Rajbhandari, Heartfelt Tidbits
How did these immigration support nonprofits hear about NIA?
Recommendation from other nonprofits.
“We talked to other nonprofits, who gave NIA a good recommendation.”
– Edwin Morgado, Placer People of Faith Together
A broker’s recommendation.
“Our broker was the one who recommended NIA to us.”
– Diego Padilla, Part of the Solution
Search for nonprofit-specific insurers.
“I was looking for an insurance company that specialized in nonprofits, came across a listing for NIA, and reached out for a quote.”
– Sheryl Rajbhandari, Heartfelt Tidbits
Since becoming NIA members, how has that relationship helped these immigration-focused organizations?
Stress-free coverage allows more mission focus.
“NIA made it easy to secure the insurance coverage we needed to move on to doing what we needed and wanted to accomplish.
We organized approximately three years ago when Russia invaded Ukraine, and we secured 501(c)(3) certification and insurance coverage with NIA. We have never changed, nor sought coverage elsewhere.
We undertook the work of refugee resettlement out of a conviction that we could be of service to people who desperately needed help. Insurance was necessary for us to do what we regarded as our mission, and NIA took the worry out of the front-end so we could concentrate on accomplishing our objectives.”
– Nikki Blum, Redding Refugee Sponsor Circle
NIA’s responsive, friendly staff.
“NIA is very comfortable to work with. The staff is responsive to our needs. We have never had any negative issues.”
– Edwin Morgado, Placer People of Faith Together
Access to free and discounted resources.
“Our organization appreciates the resources we get through NIA, including discounted background checks and BOARDNetWORK software.”
– Diego Padilla, Part of the Solution
Easy access to quality customer service.
“If you’re a nonprofit that doesn’t have time to sit on hold waiting for someone to answer after you’ve hit 15 different buttons, then go with NIA. I love the fact that the only number I need is for our representative and he is very responsive. They have various resources — such as harassment prevention training — that we leverage to save time from creating our own.”
– Sheryl Rajbhandari, Heartfelt Tidbits
Immigrant support nonprofits deserve insurance that’s with them every step of the way.
Why do immigrant support organizations choose NIA to be their insurer?
The answer isn’t difficult: These organizations have a mission to provide essential resources and services to help immigrant families succeed — they deserve the same kind of treatment from their insurance provider.
These nonprofits help make sure that immigrants and their families understand that — even though they have uprooted themselves from everything they’ve ever known in hopes of better lives in an unfamiliar country — they are not alone.
Just like immigration nonprofits provide a friendly face in a country that’s not always as friendly as it should be to immigrants, NIA strives to provide nonprofits with a friendly face in an insurance industry that isn’t always friendly to nonprofits, either.
NIA’s team provides reliable, affordable insurance that’s tailored to meet the specialized needs of immigration support nonprofits, and offers the quality customer support they need — enabling them to focus on their mission to support the newest Americans.
