Summary
Under the supervision of the Underwriter Manager, and within guidelines established in the NIAC / ANI underwriting manual, the Underwriting Support Specialist provides policy service support to the Insurance Operations department. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required but are not all inclusive.
Responsibilities
- A personal commitment to providing Inspired Service in every internal and external client engagement
- Provide customer service by responding promptly and courteously to all requests for information
- Effectively communicate company standards, mission, underwriting guidelines, and requirements to brokers and/or members
- Rating new business accounts and renewals accounts as assigned
- Hazardhub/PC Verifications
- Run building valuations
- Endorsement processing as assigned
- Auto filings
- Diary item follow up
- Renewal app follow up
- Policy issuance, including ordering inspections
- Back up/seasonal support tasks as assigned
- Develops amicable working relationships with underwriters/agents and handles some agent special service requests
- Training/Mentoring: Provides training and mentoring for other members of the Insurance Operations team when required
- Miscellaneous tasks – Any and all assignments related to the insurance operations department as requested by the Underwriting Manager or Chief Underwriting Officer
Required Skills
- Familiar with ISO class codes
- Experience rating commercial property/casualty accounts
- PC/Windows literate with basic Internet knowledge required
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both orally and in writing
- Ability to analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action
- Ability to work in a paperless work environment
- MS Word and Outlook experience required
- Ability to work in a fast-paced business environment
- Capacity to successfully manage multiple tasks
- Ability to work alone and as a team member
- 45-50 net words per minute typing/data entry speed
- Ability to collaborate with other staff members and external constituents
- Interest and commitment to our mission and to inspired service
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to bend, reach, or sit for up to 3 hours at a time
- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds
- Must have adequate vision (with corrective lenses if needed) to clearly view computer screen
- Must have adequate hearing to perform job tasks
Experience
- 1-3 years clerical insurance experience, preferably in the commercial property & casualty field
Education
- 4-year degree strongly preferred (or directly-related equivalent experience)
- CISR or comparable designations preferred
Compensation: The annual base salary range provided for this position is a nationwide market range and represents a broad range of salaries for this role across the country. The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors including the location, skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment. As part of our comprehensive compensation and benefits program, employees are also eligible for additional incentive compensation upon achievement of individual and company goals.

Pay Range: $22 – $32 per hour
