Please be advised: We have become aware of scammers that are impersonating NIA by sending official-looking phishing emails that attempt to get our members and brokers to make payments on a website that looks convincing but is fraudulent.
Other phishing emails ask for a reply with financial information. The reply goes to a fraudulent email address that looks nearly identical to an official NIA email address.
Red Flags
A common red flag is that the fake website address or email address contains a misspelled version of the official NIA website. For example: imsurancefornonprofits.org.
NIA will never ask you to provide payment details via email or over the phone.
NIA staff does not and cannot see or retain specific payment method details at any point – they are encrypted and stored in our secure website from the moment you enter them.
If you have any doubt about the authenticity of a call or email purporting to be from NIA:
For suspect emails:
- Do not click on any link in a suspect email or call a phone number contained in a suspect email.
- In a web browser, go directly to the official NIA website (insurancefornonprofits.org).
- Do not reply with any private sensitive financial information.
- You can call or email NIA using the contact methods found on NIA’s official website.
For suspect calls:
- Hang up on any suspect phone call.
- In a web browser, go directly to the official NIA website (insurancefornonprofits.org).
- You can call or email NIA using the contact methods found on NIA’s official website.
